| We started out in Bulldogs after looking
for breeders at a dog show. That is where we met our mentors,
breeder/ judges Mike and Mary Brunk. We started with one
Bulldog, then a second. It was with the second dog that
we were bitten by the “dog show bug.” Showing
animals was not a new thing to either of us though. Both
my wife and I started out showing horses in our youth.
Once bitten by the dog show bug, buying dogs to show
was not enough. We soon had the desire to start our
own breeding program. So here we are today as hobby
breeders. We breed mostly for ourselves, to produce
our next show dogs. It is a hobby that the whole family
has been able to enjoy together. Besides my wife and
I, there are our two young sons, Josh and Justin. Both
of our boys have embraced having the dogs as part of
our lives, and are very enthusiastic about being a part
of it all. Of course, kids and dogs just go together
naturally the way peanut butter and jelly do. You can
get to know Josh and Justin better on our kids and dogs
page.
We have owned several other breeds of dogs in the past,
but have made the Bulldog our chosen breed for many
reasons. The character of the Bulldog is outstanding.
They are a calm, loyal, and loving animal. They are
very tolerant and loving with young children, and have
a contentedness about them not matched by many breeds.
A Bulldog will gravitate more to one family member or
another, but make sure that they give to and receive
love from each family member every day. The Bulldog
is not an aggressive, “in your face” type
animal, but are not cowards either. This breed will
sacrifice itself without hesitation to protect a family
member from harm.
Some people ask us, “How can you give equal love
and attention to all of your dogs?” Well, it’s
easy. Each and every dog has his/ her unique and special
qualities. Some are snugglers, some are toy oriented,
and some are clowns. A good friend of ours once compared
owning a Bulldog to having forever young children. I
would agree with that. I think deep down in every dog’s
heart is a comedian trying to get out. I can definitely
tell that our dogs do indeed have a sense of humor.
We also count ourselves lucky to have made some wonderful
friends since becoming involved with dog shows. One
of the great things about showing is getting to know
folks from all walks of life, from across the entire
country, and some from beyond. Thank you all……
